With that ordeal finished.

Part 5: Building a Legacy

So, now that I had constructed a bunch of rooms, the next obvious thing to do was make some traps. It's one thing to have a bunch of rooms to lure people into, but they would just be walking through the place without taking a gander at any of the traps!

I decided to start simple, and made a few arrow traps. The mechanisms for this one was fairly straightforward, as the bow was held in place by a single trigger switch, and it had a tension spring so it would shoot out with enough force to pierce any armour. I placed it in a hallway right before a door to the first boss room.

I then moved on to my favourite: the swinging axe.

Again, this trap was easy to make, as the blade was connected to the ceiling via a chain. On top of that, the blades were sharpened very nicely, and even had the enchantments for fire. To trigger it, you would simply pull the lever hidden in the wall. But there was a catch to this trap – it couldn't kill. It was simply designed to maim; cut off a finger or slice through some flesh.

I also built a pit trap, but I felt like it lacked imagination, and didn't add too much to the castle, so I quickly abandoned it.

But what fun would this dungeon be if there weren't any loot? So, I started working on chests filled with gold and silver. In total, I made three chests filled with gold coins and one filled with silver ones.

Then I placed them at the end of hallways in some rooms. This wasn't really an attempt at misdirection, more like an extra reward for making it that far.

So now the rooms had something to look at besides bare walls! I decided to make some decorations too. I added torches in the halls, but those only did so much to light up the place, so I started drawing on the wall to make a little symbol for each floor. One had a sword, one had a cup, another had two sticks crossed over each other... You get the picture.

I added an armour and a robe as well, so that people could know where they are at once by how they looked. I mean, they do help you navigate, right? They're supposed to be guides towards the goal!

By now I was starting to get bored of building my floors, so I just threw down the bare essentials for traps. The next best thing to do was just let the visitors do their thing. I didn't really feel like I had to give any instructions or anything. So, the time came and people came in. And boy were they excited for all the things I created.

The first thing to happen was the first person died in the boss room. He got himself chopped into five by a pendulum. That poor sap just stood there as the
